L'orientamento astronomico diPaederus rubrothoracicusGoeze

Abstract
Paederus rubrothoracicus Goeze, a riparian Staphylinid, possesses a mechanism of solar orientation which enables the animals to come back to their own bank, when they find themselves in water. The precision of the escape-direction establishes only in the full of the good season. It appears however to be very feeble, as within an eight-days' captivity - in the populations till now studied - it has almost become quite unrecognizable. When tested in laboratory towards a fixed artificial light, Paederus appears to be negatively photbtaetic.
