Chemometric evaluation of the solvent properties of liquid organic salts

Abstract
Abraham's solvation parameter model was used to characterize the solvent properties of 38 liquid organic salts at a reference temperature of 121.4 °C. These salts are strong hydrogen-bond bases with a significant capacity for dipole–dipole and dipole-induced dipole interactions. The primary characteristics that dominate their solvent properties are the extent of charge localization on the anion and the extent of association between solvent molecules resulting from intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Their solvent properties cannot be duplicated by common non-ionic solvents used as stationary phases in gas chromatography.
