An Adenosine Triphosphatase Preparation from a Membrane-Sarcotubular Fraction of Guinea Pig Heart Muscle

Abstract
An adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) was prepared from guinea pig heart muscle membranes. It was found to require magnesium for activity, and to be stimulated by the presence of sodium and potassium ions. The ATPase was partially inhibited by strophanthin at concentrations of the order of 10-6 M. The results confirm the observations of Auditore and Murray.5
