Abstract
Evidence is presented for the long-distance dispersal of spores of wheat stem-rust from New South Wales to the wheat crops of the North Island of New Zealand. In the South Island over-wintering of stem-rust has been found on volunteer wheat plants, and this may explain the persistence of some old and now relatively avirulent stem-rust races alongside more recently evolved races in the region. Keywords
