Abstract
For the learning disabled (LD) individual postsecondary adjustment can be particularly difficult. This paper specifically addresses the role of social incompetence in occupational adjustment problems experienced by the LD adult. The existing literature on (a) factors considered critical to occupational success, (b) social development of LD individual, (c) major LD social incompetencies, and (d) social skill instruction and generalization for LD populations are reviewed. The need for occupational social skill training within LD populations is strongly indicated. Suggestions are offered for future directions.
