Abstract
Captive cottontail rabbits [42] (Sylvilagus floridanus) were used to evaluate indices of nutritional status. They were fed either ad lib or 25% restricted diets for 6 wk after which 1/2 of each group was placed on the opposite diet for 3 wk. Nutritional restriction for 6 wk caused a reduction in body weight (P < 0.01). Rabbits switched to ad lib diets for 3 wk gained wt, whereas those switched to restricted diets lost wt (P < 0.01). Blood urea N levels were higher in rabbits on restricted diets than in those on ad lib diets for the last 3 wk, whereas no significant differences were found in serum cholesterol levels. Recent nutritional restriction (3 wk) significantly (P < 0.01) reduced the fat content of bone marrow. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
