Abstract
The determination of microscopic -phase (011) peak elastic constants for residual stress evaluation has been performed for a Ti alloy used in aerospace applications, by means of in situ neutron diffractometry, using a conventional tensile-testing machine. The results are in good agreement with previous measurements and have an error much smaller than that achievable with macroscopic techniques. A comparison with calculation is presented. Some discrepancy with theoretical values (Voigt and Reuss models) has been found and an explanation for this is given.
