Impossibility of continuous deterministic phasons in octagonal quasicrystals

Abstract
It is shown that quasicrystals with octagonal symmetry do not admit continuous deterministic phasons. This rules out the possibility of finding a dynamical model of the Frenkel-Kontorova type for this simplest class of quasicrystals.Keywords
