Abstract
Several wood fragments of Pinus sp. (dated at 8230 ± 80 and 8000 ± 90 years BP) and Abies sp. were recovered from the snout of the Athabasca Glacier. This wood, derived from an unknown source up valley, indicates that the glacier was less extensive than at present during the Hypsithermal and that an area up valley of the present snout was tree covered ca. 8000–8300 years BP.
