Abstract
Part 1 of this three part discussion reviewed human requirements for calories, water, protein, vitamins and other nutrients and emphasized the relative climatic invariability of all except the calorie and water needs. The vitamin-deficiency syndrome beriberi was discussed in detail. Part 2 traces the incidence, causes, symptoms and treatment of two other diseases of malnutrition, sprue and kwashiorkor. Part 3 will cover still other nutritional syndromes and suggest the importance of continued good nutrition and the eradication of seasonal malnutrition.Keywords
