Abstract
Based on the results of experiments conducted on 105 fresh postmortem canine larynges, the following conclusions may be drawn: The anterior commissure effectively prevents the diffusion of a collodial substance (Au 198) from the submucosal space of one true vocal cord to the submucosal space of the other. When the volume of the bursal space is exceeded by the instillate, overflow into the corresponding and opposite subglottic space is observed. Free spread of the dye across the midline in both the supraglottic and sub-glottic areas was found. The extent of contralateral diffusion in the supraglottic and subglottic areas depends on two factors: the proximity of the injection to the midline and the volume of the injection. Keywords
