Abstract
A theoretical model of nitric oxide formation in single fuel droplet combustion is developed which describes the formation of nitric oxide in the vicinity of a flame front and the diffusion and radial convection of nitric oxide away from the region of formation. Integral equation methods are used to solve for nitric oxide concentration as a function of time and radial distance from the moving boundary of the droplet. Results of calculations using the model to solve for the extent of nitric oxide formation in ethanol droplet combustion are presented. The effects of droplet size, air temperature, and pressure on nitric oxide production are illustrated. Keywords
