Abstract
The taxonomy and phylogeny of two related species groups of Mexican and Central AmericanOnthophagusare considered. The dicranius group is composed of four species, including two new species,O.asperodorsatusandO.petenensis. The mirabilis group contains three species, one of these new,O.solisi. A fourth new species,O.quetzalis, shares characters with both species groups. All species in these groups are described and illustrated. A suggested phylogeny is presented. Our analysis indicates that these groups, includingO.quetzalis, may be more closely related to Indo-Malaysian species than to other New World groups ofOnthophagus. Keywords
