The pharmacology of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for acute pain

Abstract
A central mode of action for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (in addition to the peripheral effects) now seems certain. A greater understanding of enantiomer pharmacology may lead to the development of safer drugs. The discovery of an inducible cyclo-oxygenase offers additional insight into non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug activity. The need for research into non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug toxicity in surgical patients is now more urgent than ever.
