Fibrinolytic Activity in Ocular Diseases

Abstract
72 cases of 16 different ocular diseases were investigated for fibrinolytic activity. There was a marked rise of fibrinogen lysis activity in cases of vitreous hemorrhage (72.4%). The activity was considerably enhanced in exogenous uveitis and granulomatous endogenous type of uveitis, but only slightly in non-granulomatous uveitis. An increased fibrinolytic activity level was recorded in glaucoma at the time of raised intraocular tension. Hypertensive retinopathy cases had higher levels than the normal, but diabetic retinopathy cases had lower one. Almost normal figures were obtained in allergic conjunctivitis and corneal opacity. Corneal ulcers had very little rise.
