Abstract
Transitions which occur in collisions involving two heavy particles and a light particle may be treated in the impact parameter approximation. It is shown that in the limit that the heavy particles become infinitely massive, the Born expansion in the impact parameter treatment is exactly equivalent to the Born expansion in the correct wave treatment. This result has previously been proved for direct transitions and the present paper extends the proof to rearrangement transitions. Keywords
