Lymphoma Presenting as a Traumatic Hematoma in an HTLV-III Antibody-Positive Hemophiliac

Abstract
To the Editor: Although Kaposi's sarcoma is the malignant process most commonly associated with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), non-Hodgkin's lymphomas have been described in AIDS and AIDS-related illnesses,1 2 3 and those of the undifferentiated (high-grade) type have recently been accepted as diagnostic of AIDS, when accompanied by a positive test for antibody to human T-cell lymphotropic virus Type III/lymphadenopaihy-associated virus (HTLV-III/LAV).4 We report the occurrence of a diffuse undifferentiated lymphoma in a 21-year-old HTLV-III antibody-positive hemophiliac, which presented as a traumatic thigh hematoma.Diffuse lymphadenopathy developed in the patient in December 1979.
