Abstract
The levels of cAMP-dependent and Ca2+-dependent protein kinases were measured in the cytosol fraction of developing rat brain. On the basis of activity per gram wet tissue and milligram protein, cAMP-dependent enzyme was maximal immediately or soon after birth and then gradually decreased during development. In contrast, Ca2+-dependent enzyme showed increasing activity with increase of age. DEAE-cellulose column chromatography showed that the levels of types I and II cAMP-dependent protein kinases were unchanged, whereas a peak of Ca2+-dependent activity eluted with about 0.08 M NaCl markedly increased, with a maximum at about the 4th wk after birth. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
