Abstract
A remarkable result from linear water-wave theory states that the direction of the energy flux in a progressive two-dimensional plane surface wave in deep water is unaffected by the presence of a fixed submerged circular cylinder. This result is here generalized to the energy flux radiated from a pulsating two-dimensional wave source. Thus it is shown that the energy flux radiates equally to either infinity regardless of the relative positions of the cylinder and the source, the result being true for arbitrary cylinder radius and depth of submergence, and for any frequency of pulsation of the source.
