Utero-Placental Blood Velocity Resistance Index and Umbilical Venous pO2, pCO2, pH, Lactate and Erythroblast Count in Growth-Retarded Fetuses

Abstract
In 32 pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth retardation, umbilical venous blood was sampled by cordocentesis and the utero-placental blood velocity resistance index (RI) was recorded using Doppier ultrasound. Significant correlations were found between the utero-placental RI and fetal hypoxia, hypercapnea, acidosis, hyperlactaemia and erythroblastosis.
