Abstract
In this letter we consider models for surface growth in a disordered environment. We show that near the depinning transition there is a window in which the critical exponents for surface growth and fluctuations are quite different from the usual ones. We speculate that this effect may be relevant to the understanding of the recent experimental results on the scaling of the interface fluctuations in two-phase viscous flows in porous media. The value of the critical exponents describing the depinning are derived using simple handwaving arguments; they are in good agreement with the numerical data. Keywords
