Abstract
The color of thalli of the red alga C. crispus is determined by the photosynthetic pigments, chlorophyll and phycoerythrin. When the phycoerythrin-to-chlorophyll ratio is high, the thalli are red. Exposure to high-intensity sunlight reduces the phycoerythrin content so that the thalli become green. The seasonal dependence of these color changes was investigated in several natural habitats as were the role of depth and the presence or absence of overstory vegetation. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
