Abstract
Clearance of As by hemodialysis in 2 patients with acute sodium arsenite intoxication and acute renal failure were studied. Blood As concentration fell considerably with dialysis. Dialysance of As ranged between 76-87 ml/min. Total As removal by 4 h of hemodialysis exceeded its 24 h urinary excretion while renal function was impaired. With improvement of renal function, urinary As excretion increased remarkably and dialysis treatments were discontinued. Hemodialysis was a useful adjunct in the treatment of acute As poisoning with concomitant renal failure. Keywords
