Abstract
Changes in permeability of human gastric mucosa to hydrogen ion (H+) were studied in 10 healthy subjects after the sequential administration of base-line acid solution (140 mEq of hydrochloric acid per liter) and an acid solution containing acetylsalicylic acid (ASA, 20 mM) or ethanol (ETOH, 20 per cent, v/v). A new method using lithium ion (Li+) as a marker for H+ was employed to circumvent complicated ion flux calculations of previous investigations. Transmural gastric-mucosa potential difference (PD) was monitored in the same subjects. Keywords
