Abstract
Intraperit. injn. of a lethal dose of Salmonella endotoxin in rats completely inhibited the deposition of liver glycogen after oral admn. of 3 ml. of concd, glucose soln. Rabbit liver slices incubated under aerobic conditions in a Ca-K medium with glucose or pyruvate as substrates formed less glycogen in the presence of meningococcal endotoxin. Salmonella endotoxin reduced the glucose utilization of rat diaphragms in vitro. When insulin was present the inhibitory effect of Salmonella endotoxin on glucose uptake of rat diaphragms was diminished.
