Abstract
The development of a reproducible lower urinary tract bacteriological localization technique, a standardized classification system, and new insights into antibiotic pharmacokinetics in the prostate have stimulated research in the prostatitis syndromes. The diagnostic systems, however, are not being aggressively employed and effective therapy for the chronic forms of prostatic inflammation does not exist. Over the past several years, basic and clinical research reveals that we are on the right track to addressing these problems with this very difficult and frustrating disease entity. Keywords
