Abstract
Removing retarded individuals from large institutions and placing them in community settings has significant social and economic advantages. Unfortunately, few programs have been developed to aid residents in their difficult transition from the institution to the community. The present paper is a description of the mechanics for developing self‐paced programs to teach community skills. A system that was developed for teaching shopping skills to retarded adolescents is used as an example. Keywords
