Integrated 1.3 μm/1.55 μm wavelength multiplexer and 1/8 splitter by ion exchange in glass

Abstract
Integration of a 1.3 μm/1.55 μm wavelength multiplexer and a 1/8 splitter in a single glass substrate is demonstrated by potassium and silver double-ion exchange. The device is composed of a nonsymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer for wavelength multiplexing and symmetrical Y-junctions for achromatic splitting. The facet-to-facet excess loss is less than 2.5 dB.
