Putrid Sea Water as a Corrosive Medium

Abstract
Putrid sea water results from the diagenesis of natural sea water due to the decomposition of plant and animal macroorganisms. The result is a solution of low pH, high sulfide, and high total organic composition which can accelerate corrosion of copper base alloys, particularly when they are subsequently exposed to flowing, clean, aerated sea water.
