Abstract
Raman spectra of small single crystals of both the trigonal and tetragonal forms of germanium dioxide have been obtained. Frequencies and symmetries of the Raman-active optical phonons are given, and comparison is made with isomorphic quartz and rutile. The temperature dependences of the spectra have been examined over the range 6-1100°K. The static dielectric constant and infrared reflectivity of the trigonal form have been calculated from the Raman data.
