Abstract
A theory of radiationless transitions for gaseous molecules in a magnetic field is presented. Two mechanisms, the direct and indirect, for the modification of the rate of decay by the field are characterized. On the basis of the theory explanations are suggested for recent observations of magnetic quenching of fluorescence in CS2, glyoxal, and NO2.Keywords
