Abstract
A stochastic model of the growth of particles is formulated and the differential equation for the rate of change of probabilities of various particle number states is solved. A numerical study and some useful approximations are presented. The results are compared with the usual form of the stochastic coalescence equation (also known as the scalar transport equation). A bibliography is appended of discussions and applications of the scalar transport equation.Keywords
