Abstract
Intracellular organisms apparently morphologically identical with H. capsulatum were observed in supposedly normal horse amni-allantoic membrane and spleen of the mare maintained in tissue culture. The infected cells showed no stigmata of degeneration. Demonstration of intracellular forms in the cells of the membrane suggests that placental transfer of H. capsulatum is possible. Histoplasmosis itself is rare in the horse, only one possible case being recorded in the literature. Comparison is drawn between the causative agent of pseudofarcy Cryptococcus farciminosus and H. capsulatum. Da Rocha Lima was the first to note that the parasitic yeast cells of the 2 fungi were very similar. Keywords
