Abstract
Various tissues of the rat were studied by differential centrifuging for their intracellular distribution of carbonic anhydrase. Cerebral cortex, kidney, liver and salivary glands appeared to contain enzymic activity in both particulate and soluble fractions. A majority of the activity was associated with the soluble fraction. The activity of the thyroid gland, however, was restricted to the soluble fraction. More detailed fractionation studies of cerebral cortex and kidney indicated that the particulate matter associated with enzymic activity corresponded in general to the mitochondrial fraction. Keywords
