Abstract
The extent of muscle and skin necrosis was detd. in two series of frostbitten rabbits treated with cortisone and compared to control animals. For detn. of skin necrosis the hind legs of rabbits were exposed to an alcohol bath at -15[degree]C for 30 minutes and for muscle necrosis to 12[degree]C for 30 minutes. The treated animals were given 2.5 mg. cortisone intramusc. twice daily for 2 days beginning with the day of exposure and 1.5 mg. twice daily for 5 days at which time the animals were sacrificed. Cortisone in the doses used was not effective in reducing the extent of muscle or skin necrosis after standard cold injuries. Keywords
