Abstract
The main object of this paper has been to show that the band shape of optical rotatory dispersion can be quantitatively interpreted by taking into account the radiation damping effect which removes the singularities associated with optical rotatory dispersion and by regarding the dispersion curve of optical rotation to consist of a series of lines that merge into a simple broad band. The strength of each individual line is to a large extent determined by the Franck–Condon factor. To illustrate this approach, an example has been given. Keywords
