Abstract
The kinetics of equilibration of newly concentrated iodide (I131) with existing thyroidal iodine (I127) stores were studied in White Leghorn cockerels. A long thyroidal retention of I131 was observed. The relative distribution of I131 in the thyroidal iodoamino acids became identical with that of I127 48 hours after injection of radioiodide and remained that way during the rest of the experiment The results are interpreted to signify that intrathyroidal iodination and deiodination reactions occur continually and lead to randomization of thyroidal iodine. Keywords
