Abstract
The optimal design of fully stressed arches subject to external load, self-weight, and/or weight of roof sheeting is considered and the maximum feasible span for a given permissible sfress is evaluated. The cost sensitivity of the design is also investigated. All solutions are obtained in a closed analytical form. Keywords
