Production ofΣHyperons inK−pInteractions

We report the observation of the production in high-energy $K^{-}p$ interactions of four $\Sigma$ hyperon states, the $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(1385\right)\mathrm{}$, $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(1660\right)\mathrm{}$, $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(1940\right)\mathrm{}$, and $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(2280\right)\mathrm{}$. The properties of the $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(1385\right)\mathrm{}$ and $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(1660\right)\mathrm{}$ are in good agreement with previous observations. The $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(1940\right)\mathrm{}$, in contrast to previous evidence, has a strong $\Sigma \pi$ decay mode which agrees with its assignment to the SU(3) ${\frac{5}{2}}^{+}$ octet. Finally, the existence of the $\Sigma \mathrm{}\left(2280\right)\mathrm{}$ has been confirmed and some of its decay modes exhibited.
