Abstract
The cumulative probability of cure following radiation therapy was 89.5% for 276 basal cell carcinomas of the nose and 94.5% for 62 squamous cell carcinomas of the nose. The difference in treatment failure rates for basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma was not significant. Age of patient, sex, tumor size, and tumor site did not influence the failure rates. The differences in failure rates among the four radiation schedules were significant for squamous cell carcinoma but not for basal cell carcinoma. The occurrence of failures both in the center and at the edge of the radiation field suggests that failures in this study resulted from difficulty in estimation of tumor size and depth. Keywords
