A short, stereoselective synthesis of triquinane sesquiterpene hydrocarbon (±)-pentalenene (4) from commercially available 1,5-dimethylcyclo-octa-1,5-diene (5) involving a transannular cyslisation as the pivotal step is described.Keywords
