Abstract
In an earlier Comment [Phys. Rev. B 32, 5479 (1985)] we have argued that Kimball’s relation should break down at high densities of an electron gas. To test this argument, Kimball’s relation was applied to an ideal electron gas and was found not to satisfy it. Hubmer [preceding Comment, Phys. Rev. B 35, 36, 6171 (1987)] contends that the ideal electron gas does satisfy Kimball’s relation. By examining Kimball’s original derivation, we show that Hubmer’s process of satisfying Kimball’s relation is not correct. We further strengthen our original argument by showing that Kimball’s pair wave function is in fact a ‘‘repulsive hydrogenic’’ wave function, devoid of many-body correlations. Keywords
