Abstract
Echinococcus disease limited to a kidney is very rare in this country. Up to and including Kretschmer's1case in 1923, there have been eighteen cases reported. These have been reviewed and abstracted by him. In only two of these had pyelograms been done, once by Young,2who reported an abnormal pelvis, and once by Kretschmer, who showed a picture of an area of calcification depressing the calices. There is nothing characteristic in pyelography of this condition. REPORT OF CASE History. —Mrs. B. N., aged 43, Italian housewife, was admitted to the hospital complaining of a large mass in the left side of the abdomen. The family history was not noteworthy. The patient had come to New York State eleven years before, from Italy, and had lived here since. She had always been strong and well and had never had any operations or previous illnesses.
