Swash and swash mark

Abstract
The time interval between swashes was found to be longer for gentle marine beaches than for steep ones owing to differing effectiveness of the beaches as wave filters. This relationship offers a possible means of determining the angle of beach slope from aerial reconnaissance. Swashes that cross the outcrop of the beach water table leave swash marks that are farther apart on gentle beaches than on steep ones. Three factors that control this spacing are the interference of swash on the beach, the width of beach exposed per unit time of tide fall, and the permeability of the beach.
