Abstract
A false negative cervical smear rate of 22 in 246 smears obtained at colposcopy was further investigated to illustrate the problems of cytology screening. Inadequate smears, wrongly graded smears and postnatal smears were avoidable factors. The presence of encocervical cells in the smear did not necessarily mean an accurate cervical smear. Keywords
