Abstract
The specific activity of respiratory CO2 and urinary uracil and pseudouridine was followed after administering labelled orotic acid. An early peak in urinary uracil and respiratory CO2 activity curves appeared that was absent from the pseudouridine curve. The latter showed a gradual decline over several weeks. From these data the rate of pyrimidine production was estimated as 1.61, 1.23 and 1.15 grams of nucleosides/day.Keywords
