Abstract
A semiempirical equation is proposed to describe the effect on the viscosity of a solvent due to the addition of a solute. This equation is applied to many types of mixtures but not those for which components are electrolytes or water. The B coefficient at infinite dilution is B°2 = V·1 + V·2 /2[ln η·2/In η·1 - H°/2-H·2 / 2.45RT ] where H°2-H·2 is the heat of solution of the liquid solute, V·1 and V·2 the molar volumes and η·2 and η·1 the viscosities of the pure components. Keywords
