Abstract
The model used by Tobolsky for calculating the mean square end‐to‐end distance of a normal alkane‐type chain is modified so as to account for part of the excluded volume effect. All conformations containing cyclohexane‐type loops, and most configurations involving pentane‐type steric hindrances are excluded. The present model, as compared with that used by Tobolsky, is simpler mathematically and yields values of the average square length of short chains which are closer to the exact ones. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
