The Oxidation of Thin Single Crystals of Iron

Abstract
Single crystal (001) films of iron treated with mixtures of oxygen and nitrogen at 10−7 Torr and 700°C form individual oxide grains observable in transmission electron microscopy. The three reaction products all have a fixed epitaxy with (001) parallel to the iron film. The grain size and distribution of the product phases are reported as well as a curious growth behavior of .
