Abstract
A defluorinated rock phosphate, in which it was claimed that the original ortho form of phosphate was maintained, was compared with steamed bone meal in its ability to serve as a satisfactory supplement to Pdefieient rations of dairy cattle. Four grade Holstein heifers about 21 months of age were fed similar Pdeficient rations during the 17 months of the expt. During the last 11 mons., 2 of them were fed steamed bone meal as a supplement to their rations; the other 2 received equivalent additions of P from the rock phosphate product. Total P intakes were kept slightly below the requirements of each animal. No significant difference was observed between the supplements in availability of their P to dairy cattle. Animals fed bone meal made slightly greater gains in wt. No difference was noted in palatability of 2 supplements as fed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
